Researcher who worked on Facebook experiment was funded by DoD

Facebook's controversial "emotional study", which subjected over half a million unwitting users of the social network to a psychological conditioning experiment, has direct ties to research funded by the Department of Defense concerning the likelihood of civil unrest.
The Facebook scandal hit the headlines this week, as it was revealed that the company participated with a federally funded UCSF study into how emotions can be swayed on social media by controlling the content of personal feeds and deciding whether to show negative or positive material.
While that fact in itself is disturbing, it seems that the rabbit hole goes even deeper.

Pentagon Official: The Obama Drone Kill Memo Is Out And Libertarians Were Right — It's Murder

--The problem is that the administration is making the accusations against a U.S. citizen, rendering a judgment of guilt or innocence outside of the court system, and then carrying out an extrajudicial killing of American citizens in complete and utter violation of the Constitution. The part of the memo that addresses the right to due process is redacted.
At no point in the extralegal process outlined in the memo is the U.S. citizen in question tried or convicted in a court of law for the crimes the administration alleges the individual is guilty of. The administration is making that determination, and exactly who within the administration is still unclear. This is a scary usurpation of power from the judicial branch — and an amazing power grab by the executive.
Finally, under the legal reasoning outlined in the memo, there is nothing to prevent the president from ordering a lethal operation against U.S. citizens inside the United States, as the memo does not stipulate that there is a geographic limitation to these operations — only a test of feasibility. Nor is there a single requirement for a federal court of judge to make the determination that a person is a member or leader of a terrorist organization.
When this country was created, the Founders may not have anticipated the dangers posed by a terrorist cell capable of killing thousands or more. But they knew well, and carefully guarded against, the dangers of a government gone wild. In this memo, finally made public, we have proof of a White House that considers itself judge, jury and executioner. And that, America, is a clear and present danger.

Today is the Tenth Amendment Center's 8th anniversary. It's hard to believe I've been at this for eight years!
Looking back, I'm blown away by what the Tenth Amendment Center has grown into. But growth comes with growing pains.
I have to admit, there are times – and they have happened often in the last few weeks – that I can barely muster the energy to keep pushing on. My inability to raise the money needed to pay myself a paltry $10/hour along with barely a handful of part-time team members has been giving me thoughts of throwing in the towel.
In my worst moments, I've had thoughts like this: "I've given eight years of my life. I have no car, no insurance, no retirement fund, no cellphone plan, and have had just one week of vacation in a decade. And the public, by not giving me the funding after so many years – to really get the job done – is telling me that they don't want, or need, this kind of dedication and sacrifice from me."
But those thoughts become fleeting when things happen like they did yesterday. Eight years ago, I started a blog with about 20 bucks. And yesterday, a California assembly committee passed a bill I originally wrote to start the process of turning off resources to the NSA. It already passed the Senate 29-1, and should get to the Governor's desk this year.
