Pentagon Papers Leaker Daniel Ellsberg Praises Snowden, Manning (Audio)
Source: NPR.org
Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who in 1971 leaked the top-secret Pentagon Papers detailing the history of U.S. policy in Vietnam, tells NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday that unlike Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden, he "did it the wrong way" by trying first to go through proper channels — a delay that he says cost thousands of lives.
"I really regarded [it] as anathema ... leaking as opposed to working within the system," Ellsberg says, speaking to NPR's Linda Wertheimer. "I wasted years trying to do it through channels, first within the executive branch and then with Congress."
"During that time, more than 10,000 Americans died and probably more than a million Vietnamese," Ellsberg says.
"That was a fruitless effort, as it would have been for Manning and Snowden," he says.

NSA Director Heckled At Conference
Source: Forbes.com
--Alexander was about a half hour into his talk when a 30-year-old security consultant named Jon McCoy shouted "Freedom!"
"Exactly," responded Alexander. "We stand for freedom."
"Bullshit!" McCoy shouted.
"Not bad," Alexander said, as applause broke out in the crowd. "But I think what you're saying is that in these cases, what's the distinction, where's the discussion and what tools do we have to stop this."
"No, I'm saying I don't trust you!" shouted McCoy.
"You lied to Congress. Why would people believe you're not lying to us right now?" another voice in the crowd added.
"I haven't lied to Congress," Alexander responded, visibly tensing. "I do think it's important for us to have this discussion. Because in my opinion, what you believe is what's written in the press without looking at the facts. This is the greatest technical center of gravity in the world. I ask that you all look at those facts."

NSA Can't Search Emails Of Agency Employees
Source: HuffingtonPost.com
The NSA is a "supercomputing powerhouse" with machines so powerful their speed is measured in thousands of trillions of operations per second. The agency turns its giant machine brains to the task of sifting through unimaginably large troves of data its surveillance programs capture.
But ask the NSA, as part of a freedom of information request, to do a seemingly simple search of its own employees' email? The agency says it doesn't have the technology.

FORMER CIA OFFICER: Edward Snowden Is No Traitor (Recommended)
Source: BusinessInsider.com
There are a number of narratives being floated by the usual suspects to attempt to demonstrate that Edward Snowden is a traitor who has betrayed secrets vital to the security of the United States. All the arguments being made are essentially without merit. Snowden has undeniably violated his agreement to protect classified information, which is a crime. But in reality, he has revealed only one actual secret that matters, which is the United States government's serial violation of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution through its collection of personal information on millions of innocent American citizens without any probable cause or search warrant.
That makes Snowden a whistleblower, as he is exposing illegal activity on the part of the federal government. The damage he has inflicted is not against U.S. national security but rather on the politicians and senior bureaucrats who ordered, managed, condoned, and concealed the illegal activity.
