The inJustice Department Strikes Again

The Justice Department said Thursday that it would not file charges in connection with the deaths of two prisoners held in CIA custody a decade ago, closing the last active criminal investigation into the agency�s treatment of prisoners after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The decision marks the culmination of a criminal probe that took nearly five years, examined the treatment of about 100 prisoners and branched out far beyond its initial scope � but ultimately produced no charges against any CIA officer.
--The American Civil Liberties Union criticized the decision as �yet another entry in what is already a shameful record� of the Justice Department.
�That the Justice Department will hold no one accountable for the killing of prisoners in CIA custody is nothing short of a scandal,� Jameel Jaffer, deputy legal director of the ACLU, said in a statement. �The Justice Department has declined to bring charges against the officials who authorized torture, the lawyers who sought to legitimate it, and the interrogators who used it.�

Black Hawk Helicopter Training Zone

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - If you see military helicopters flying low over Minneapolis, don�t be alarmed. They�re just training in an urban environment.
The U.S. Special Operations Command will be conducting exercises until the beginning of September. This week they�re using helicopters, including Black Hawks.

--On March 6, 2012 engineer Jonathan Corbett posted a video on YouTube, demonstrating how easily the "nude body scanners" can be defeated, and why these machines actually make air travel LESS safe, if we're actually worried about terrorists boarding planes with guns and other lethal objects on their person.
Furthermore, as explained by Miles O'Brien in the video in the next section below, these machines are also unlikely to detect certain explosives, and likely would NOT have caught the infamous "underwear bomber" � the case that presaged the rapid release of these backscatter scanners in the first place.
--Last year, ProPublica published a letter to John Holdren, senior advisor to President Barack Obama on science and technology, written by five professors who reveal that there has not actually been any verifiable scientific testing of the safety of airport scanners � and that the levels of radiation being used are likely much higher than the public has been led to believe. These scientists believe the high quality images produced cannot possibly be obtained with the low levels of radiation described, and that the actual level may be 45 times higher than what the manufacture is claiming.

COMMENT: Holdren coauthored a book advocating government-enforced "compulsory abortion" and "involuntary fertility control" (achieved by adding sterilants to our drinking water and or food supply.) Forgive my cynicism, I just don't think somebody with that kind of mindset is going to worry about the carcinogenic effects of airport body scanners.

CIA �Manages� Drug Trade, Mexican Official Says (Recommended)

The Central Intelligence Agency�s involvement in drug trafficking is back in the media spotlight after a spokesman for the violence-plagued Mexican state of Chihuahua became the latest high-profile individual to accuse the CIA, which has been linked to narcotics trafficking for decades, of ongoing efforts to �manage the drug trade.� The infamous American spy agency refused to comment.
In a recent interview, Chihuahua state spokesman Guillermo Terrazas Villanueva told Al Jazeera that the CIA and other international �security� outfits "don't fight drug traffickers." Instead, Villanueva argued, they try to control and manage the illegal drug market for their own benefit.

Why a Shingles Epidemic is Bolting Straight at the U.S.

--The incidence of adult shingles has increased by 90 percent from 1998 to 2003, following the release of the chickenpox vaccine for mass use. Shingles results in three times as many deaths and five times as many hospitalizations as chickenpox, and accounts for 75 percent of all medical costs associated with the varicella zoster virus.
Even children are beginning to come down with shingles, as evidenced by school nurse reports since 2000, which wasone of the concerns prompting Dr. Goldman to warn the CDC that it may be bringing about a shingles epidemic.
Prior to chickenpox vaccination, shingles was seen only in adults.
All evidence points to the fact that we have traded a relatively mild illness (chickenpox), which does NOT involve complications for 99.9 percent of healthy children, for a more serious illness in our elderly (shingles) that has the potential for compromising the health of an entire population.

--It is telling indeed that the Obama administration now routinely uses tactics in Pakistan long denounced as terrorism when used by others, and does so with so little controversy. Just in the past several months, attacks on funerals of victims have taken place in Yemen (purportedly by al-Qaida) and in Syria (purportedly, though without evidence, by the Assad regime), and such attacks � understandably � sparked outrage. Yet, in the west, the silence about the Obama administration's attacks on funerals and rescuers is deafening.

COMMENT: It's only a "terrorist tactic" when somebody else does it. It's only "torture" when somebody else does it. It's only "Soviet-Union-style spying" when another country engages in it.
In other words the actual SUBSTANCE of an act means nothing anymore. Only the euphemisms used to describe it, the "special circumstances" used to justify it, and the nationality of those who engage in it, are relevant when it comes to determining whether an act is "honorable" or "evil."

�Fast and Furious� Is Not What You Think It Is

A high-ranking Mexican drug cartel operative currently in U.S. custody is making startling allegations that the failed federal gun-walking operation known as �Fast and Furious� isn�t what you think it is.
It wasn�t about tracking guns, it was about supplying them � all part of an elaborate agreement between the U.S. government and Mexico�s powerful Sinaloa Cartel to take down rival cartels.
--Zambada-Niebla claims that under a �divide and conquer� strategy, the U.S. helped finance and arm the Sinaloa Cartel through Operation Fast and Furious in exchange for information that allowed the DEA, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies to take down rival drug cartels. The Sinaloa Cartel was allegedly permitted to traffic massive amounts of drugs across the U.S. border from 2004 to 2009 � during both Fast and Furious and Bush-era gunrunning operations � as long as the intel kept coming.
